#11 LADY HORNETS PLAY K-STATE TO TIE AT HALF BEFORE FALLING 87-65

Game saw seven ties and ten lead changes

November 3, 2017-The #11 Lady Hornets were tied with Kansas State 38-38 at the half before the Wildcats used a 31-10 third quarter to pull away for an 87-65 victory.
 
K-State jumped out to a 13-8 lead with 5:42 left in the first quarter.  Emporia State answered with an 8-2 run of their own to take a 16-15 lead with 2:44 remaining on Morgan Laudan's old fashioned three-point play.  The quarter ended with the teams tied at 19.

Neither team took more than a three point lead in the second quarter as the two teams were tied three times and switched the lead eight times.  A Jacee Kramer three-pointer with 3:27 left gave the Lady Hornets their biggest lead of the game at 35-33.  Rachel Ranke scored the next five points for K-State to give them a three-point lead at 38-35 with 1:41 remaining in the half.  Madison Ralston nailed a three-pointer with 58 seconds left to send the teams to the locker rooms tied at 38.

The Wildcats Kaylee Page and Lady Hornets Jesicca Wayne traded buckets to start the third quarter.  A Peyton Williams layup gave K-State a 48-43 lead with 7:22 left and Jessica Wayne answered with a layup of her own 15 seconds later to make it 48-45. It would be the last field goal for Emporia State until 1:52 remained in the quarter as the Wildcats went on a 13-1 run to take a 61-46 lead.  Tyra Jones scored to break the run and cut the lead to 13 points. The Wildcats would then score the final eight points of the quarter to take a 69-48 lead into the final period. The Lady Hornets lost the final period 18-17  for the final score of 87-65

Emily Miller led the Lady Hornets with 19 points as she hit five of eight three-pointers and added six assists.  Tyra Jones had a double-double with 16 points and a game high 13 rebounds.

Emporia State will start the regular season on Friday, November 10 when they take on Southwestern Oklahoma in the first game of the MIAA-GAC Challenge in Joplin, Mo.  Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
