November 24, 2017- Emporia State men's basketball held off a strong comeback attempt from Newman for an 85-80 victory in White Auditorium.
The first half belonged to the Hornets as they opened the game with a 5-0 start and would not allow the Jets to close within five the remainder of the half. The Hornets were led by Brandon Hall with 16 points followed by Isaac McCullough with 12 in the first half. The Hornets out-shot the Jets 47-37% from the field and held them without a make from beyond the arc. The Hornets shot 5-10 from three and 9-11 from the free throw line in the half.
The Jets outscored the Hornets 53-41 in the second half while out-shooting them 46-41% from the field, 45-25% from three and 82-67% from the free throw line. The Hornets were able to hold the Jets off with help from Brandon Hall who had a game high 28 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the Hornets. McCullough and Grant Shell joined him in double digits with 12 points each for the Hornets. Hassan Thomas led the Hornets in rebounding with 7 boards followed by Hall and Brian Morton with 6 each.
The Hornets will be back in action Saturday November 25 as they face Rockhurst. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in WL White Auditorium.
