EMPORIA STATE VOLLEYBALL GOES 1-1 IN DAY TWO OF WU TOURNEY

Hornets defeat Midwestern State in five sets and lose to Quincy University in three sets

The Emporia State volleyball team defeated Midwestern State in five sets early Saturday morning for their first win of the season. The Hornets had a fast start, taking the first two sets 25-17 and 25-13. Midwestern State then came back to tie the sets 2-2 with 25-16 and 25-19 victories. Emporia State came out on top in the end, winning the fifth and final set 15-10.

Jamie Hauptman had 11 kills to lead the Hornets. Kimberly Bell had 18 assists while Emma Dixon added another 12 assists. Tatum Graves and Shayla Cotman each had two solo blocks, Graves finishing with eight total blocks, Cotman with five total blocks.

LOSS TO QUINCY
Emporia State was swept by Quincy University, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20, to end the Washburn Invitational Tournament. The Hornets had 51 total digs, 30 assists and 32 kills. They were led by Josie Williams with seven kills while Kimberly Bell and Emma Dixon each had 12 assists.

NEXT SERVE
The Hornets will travel to Wichita Falls, Texas to compete in the MSU Hampton Inn-Vitational on Friday, Sept. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 10. Emporia State will face Cameron University, St. Edward's University, Dallas Baptist and Fort Lewis.
