September 24, 2016 - The Hornet volleyball team fell in three sets (15-25, 12-25, 7-25) to the #3 Lopers on Saturday night in Kearney, Neb. to fall to 0-3 in MIAA play.
Emporia State took its first timeout trailing 8-3 in set one and would not score more than two points in a row in the first set. The Hornets fell 25-15 in set one with a .205 hitting percentage. After a tie at 3-3 in set two, Emporia State took their first lead, 4-3, of the night on a Danika Burton kill. Neb.-Kearney went on a 6-1 run to lead 9-5 before Emporia State took a timeout. The Hornets would stay within five in set two before the Lopers went on a 5-1 run to take a 17-9 lead to force another Emporia State timeout. Neb.-Kearney won set two 25-12. The Lopers took control early with a 6-0 lead before the Hornets took a timeout in the third set. Neb.-Kearney maintained control and won set three 25-7.
Jamie Hauptman led Emporia State with seven kills on a team high .278 hitting percentage. Julia Joseph followed with six kills. Josie Williams and Danika Burton each added another four kills. Emma Dixon led with 13 assists followed by Bell with ten assists. Allie Maloney had 14 digs to lead the Hornets, joined by Williams with nine digs. Shayla Cotman, Burton and Tatum Graves each had two block assists on the night.
Emporia State will begin a five game home stand on Friday, Sept. 30 at 6:00 p.m. against Missouri Southern. The Hornets will take on the Lions in William L. White Auditorium.
