April 22, 2016-Emporia State took a 4-2 lead into the eighth inning only to fall 5-4 in ten innings at Lindenwood on Friday night in St. Charles, Mo.
The Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the second on back to back doubles by Daniel LaMunyon and Derek Francis. A Dalton Wheat RBI triple followed by a ground rule double from Evan Koehler gave the Hornets a 3-0 lead going to the bottom of the third. The Lions got two runs back off Hornet starter Tyler Stubblefield in the bottom of the third to pull within 3-2.
Jonny Hodges drove in Ryan McBroom with a single in the sixth to give Emporia State a 4-2 lead. Stubblefield then settled in and retired the next six Lions with three strikeouts. After giving up two singles and a hit batter in the eighth, Stubblefield was relieved by Garrett Brummett who hit pinch hitter Bobby Lang to drive in a run. Brummet got a strikeout for the second out of the inning before giving up a game tying walk to Wes Degener. He got another strikeout to leave the bases filled with Lions and send the game to the ninth tied at 4-4.
Neither team scored in the ninth and the Hornets were retired in order in the top of the tenth. Brummett struckout the first two batters in the bottom of the tenth before Degener got the walk off homer.
Stubblefield went 7.1 innings, allowing four runs on ten hits with one walk and four strike outs. Brummett took the loss, giving up one run on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Hodges led the Hornet offense going three for five with an RBI and a run scored from his lead off spot.
