March 26, 2016-Tyler Stubblefield tossed 6.0 innings of one hit ball while the Hornet bull pen tossed 3.0 more shut out innings as #15 Emporia State blanked Neb.-Kearney 9-0 on Saturday in Kearney, Neb.
CLOSER THAN IT LOOKS
Both starting pitchers were solid through the first half of the game as they both took a shutout in to the fifth inning. BJ Dean broke the scoreless tie with a solo homer in the top of the fifth. Wade Hanna tripled with one out in the sixth and came home when Daniel LaMunyon reached on an error for a 2-0 lead. With two outs in the seventh Aaron Gile hit a pinch hit double and came home on an Alex White single as the Hornets took a three run advantage. Emporia State blew the game open in the top of ninth with six runs on six hits, with Dalton Wheat delivering the knockout blow with a double that scored two.
PITCHING WINS
Tyler Stubblefield went tossed 6.0 shut out innings, allowing one hit with seven strikeouts and five walks. The bull pen trio of Tevin Renken, Grant Bachura and Trey Taylor threw another 3.0 scoreless innings, giving up just three hits.
THE OFFENSIVE NUMBERS
Seven Hornets had RBI and nine recorded a hit on the day. Wade Hanna was three for five with two runs scored and an RBI while Dalton Wheat had two RBI on double. Emporia State pinch hitters went three for four on the day with two RBI and three runs scored.
UP NEXT
The Hornets and Lopers will meet in a double header on Sunday at 12 noon in Kearney, Neb. to wrap up the three game series.
