March 23, 2016-The Emporia State women split the singles competition but could not overcome a 3-0 deficit after doubles in a 6-3 loss at Washburn on Wednesday afternoon in Topeka.

The Hornets were in a 3-0 hole after falling in all of the doubles matches. It was just the second time this year they had been swept in doubles.

Emporia State did pick up wins at the first three singles positions.  Tawni Griffey winning 6-3, 6-1 at #1, Kaley Clark taking a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 win at #2 and Amy Fugit winning 6-4, 6-3 at #3 singles.

The Hornets will step out of MIAA competition on Monday when they play host to William Jewell.  First serve of the women's only dual is set for 2:00 p.m. on the Milton Courts.
