March 22, 2016-Emporia State won three of six singles matches, but could not overcome a 2-1 deficit after doubles in a 5-4 loss at #36 Washburn on Tuesday afternoon in Topeka, Kan.

The Hornet duo of Patrick Cameron and Gerard Pont fell 8-4 at #1 doubles before Farhan Sadique and Collin Connor won 8-2 at #3 to even the dual.  Washburn took an 8-6 win over Matheus Mota and Keenan Smith at #2 doubles to take a 2-1 lead headed into singles.

Cameron fell 6-1, 6-1 at #1 and Louis Ledin dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision at #3 singles to give the Ichabods a 4-1 lead. Gerard Pont fell 6-4, 6-3 at #2 singles as Washburn clinched the victory.  Emporia State battled back getting a 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 win by Smith at #5, a 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 win at #4 by Mota while Sadique won 6-3, 6-7 (7-5), 10-6 at #6 to pull the Hornets within 5-4.

The Hornets, who dropped to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA, will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to McPherson.  The Emporia State women will travel to Topeka on Wednesday to play the Washburn.
