February 27, 2016 - The Hornets fell 86-76 to Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle Saturday afternoon. Emporia State will play Tuesday, March 1 in the first round of the MIAA Tournament at a site to be determined.
FIRST HALF
The first half had three ties and four lead changes. The Ichabods jumped out to a 6-2 lead before ESU answered with a 7-2 run of their own to take a 9-8 lead with 16:10 left. The Ichabods used an 11-5 run to take a 36-29 lead with 2:53 left in the half. A lay up by Jay Temaat with 43 seconds left sent Emporia State to the lockerroom down 40-34.
SECOND HALF
Emporia State used 8-2 run to tie the score at 50 with 13:11 left on a Terrence Moore lay up. A Jevon Taylor three pointer made it 64-63 Washburn with 7:34 left. The Ichabods then went on an 8-0 run to take control of the game as they led 72-63 with 5:24 left. They would hit 10 of 11 free throws in the final 3:48 to ice the win.
BY THE NUMBERS
Terrence Moore led with 20 points, four steals, and three assists. Moore becomes just the fourth Hornet to ever reach 1,700 points. Josh Pederson had 15 points shooting five for seven from the stripe. Kevin Allen and Micah Swank each had ten points, Allen with the double double earning ten rebounds. Swank, Charles McKinney, and Brandon Hall each had three assists.
