February 20, 2016-Emporia State put four players in double figures in an 85-65 win over Northeastern State on Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium. With the win the Hornets evened their record at 13-13 overall and 10-10 in the MIAA.
SEE SAW FIRST
The teams went back and forth for much of the first half with ten ties and nine lead changes in the first 17 minutes. Emporia State used a 7-2 run to take a 48-42 lead with 15 seconds left in the half before the RiverHawks got a last second shot from KD Moore to make it 48-44 at the break.
TAKING CONTROL
Northeastern State tied the score at 50-50 with 17:29 left when Emporia State went on a 10-0 run to take control. The lead was still at ten points at the under ten media when the Hornets went on a 17-2 run to take a 84-59 lead iwth 3:38 left in the game.
THE NUMBERS
Charles McKinney had a game high 20 points to lead four Hornets in double figures. Terrence Moore had 17 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals. Tyler Jordan had a season high 13 points while Jevon Taylor added ten. Kevin Allen had 11 rebounds as Emporia State out-rebounded the RiverHawks 43-32. It is the third straight game the Hornets have had at least 40 rebounds.
CLINCHED
With the win, Emporia State has clinched a berth in the MIAA Tournament. They are currently tied for seventh and could get to host a first round game on Tuesday, March 1.
