EMPORIA STATE MEN FALL 76-70 AT LINCOLN

Hornets outscored 27-7 at the free throw line in the loss

February 13, 2016-In a game that saw eight ties and six lead changes, the Emporia State men could not come up with a final push in a 76-70 loss at Lincoln on Saturday.
 
HALF OF RUNS
Both teams had several big runs in the game.  Lincoln jumped out to an 11-5 lead to open the game, only to see Emporia State use a 12-0 run to take a 27-17 lead with 8:21 left in the half.  The Hornets had a 12 point lead with 5:31 left but the Blue Tigers surged back with a 10-0 run of their own to pull within 364-32 with 2:54 left in the half.  Emporia State got back to back scores from Terrence Moore to go up by seven with 1:48 left nad settled into a 39-34 lead at the break.
 
SECOND HALF RUNS
The second period was much like the first with Emporia State leading by six early only to see Lincoln use a 9-0 run to take a six point lead with 12:39 left.  The Hornets answered with a 10-0 run to take a 59-55 lead with 9:30 remaining in the game. There would be three ties and three lead changes over the remainder of the game with the Blue Tigers ending the game on an 8-2 run in the final 1:19 with six of the points coming off the free throw line.
 
THE NUMBERS
Terrence Moore led Emporia State with 24 points and was joined in double figures by Kevin Allen with a career high 13 points.  The Hornets shot 55.2% from the field, connecting on 16 of 29 shots but were just seven of 12 from the free throw line.  Lincoln hit 21 of 51 from the field for 41.2% but capitalized at the line, hitting 27 of 35 charities.
 
UP NEXT
The Hornets return to White Auditorium to take on Central Oklahoma.  Tip-off on Wednesday, Feb. 17 is set for 7:30 p.m.
