December 17, 2016 - The #5 Lady Hornets returned to White Auditorium with a win Saturday evening, defeating Lincoln 85-59 with four starters in double digit scoring.
Emporia State got off to an early 6-1 lead over Lincoln with threes from Kyrstie Miller and Addie Lackey. The Blue Tigers closed the gap 10-8 with 6:17 left in the first quarter. A 9-0 run by the Lady Hornets gave them a 19-8 lead with 3:12 remaining in the first quarter. Lincoln scored four of the final six points of the quarter to end it 21-12 at an Emporia State advantage. The Lady Hornets had ten second chance points in the first quarter and were out-rebounding the Blue Tigers 16-3.
A Megan Holloway three was the first basket of the second quarter, putting the Lady Hornets up 24-12 with 9:38 until the half. A quick 6-2 run by the Blue Tigers put them within eight at 29-21 with 6:16 remaining in the second quarter. Emporia State finished the first half on a 14-5 run, expanding their lead to nearly 20 points at 42-26 headed into the locker room. The Lady Hornets were shooting five for eight beyond the arc after two quarters and holding Lincoln to 37% from the field.
Addie Lackey started Emporia State off with a three pointer, assisted by Kelly Moten, just 13 seconds into the second half. The closest the Blue Tigers would get in the third quarter was 48-32 with 7:54 remaining. The Lady Hornets opened up their lead even farther, finishing the quarter with a 28 point lead at 70-42 from a Moten layup assisted by Lackey. Although Lincoln had a better third quarter shooting percentage with six made shots on just 11 attempts, Emporia State dominated shooting 12 for 24 from the field.
The Lady Hornets did not allow Lincoln back into the game, letting them get within only 25 points. Emporia State shot eight for ten from the stripe in the fourth quarter compared to Lincoln's seven for 12 for 58.3% from the line.
Kyrstie Miller led Emporia State with 18 points shooting seven for nine from the field and a perfect three for three from the three point line. Miller also grabbed three steals from the Blue Tigers. Moten followed with 17 points, adding five assists and shooting six for eight from the line. Tiana Moala had a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds, five offensive. Moala shot six for seven from the stripe. Lackey added another ten points. Jessica Wayne had seven rebounds followed by Shelby Baker with six. Emporia State finished shooting 47.1% from three point range and 15 for 20 from the free throw line. The Lady Hornets out-rebounded the Blue Tigers 56-22, converting to have 25 second chance points.
The #5 Lady Hornets return to White Auditorium on Monday, December 19 at 5:30 p.m. to face Lindenwood. This will be their final game at home until the new year begins.
