EMPORIA STATE MEN GET ROAD WIN AT FORT HAYS STATE

Hornets hit 14 three-pointers in win

December 10, 2016-Emporia State hit 14 three-pointers and led by as many as 24 in a 75-67 win at Ft. Hays State on Saturday afternoon in Hays, Kan.
 
The Tigers led 7-5 with 15:58 left in the first half when the Hornets hit five three pointers in the next six minutes as they took a 20-12 lead with 10:13 left. Josh Pedersen started the onslaught with back to back threes and was followed by treys from Brian Morton, Brandon Hall and Garin Vandiver. Another three pointer from Vandiver with the Hornets a 25-12 lead with 9:08 remaining in the half. 
 
Ft. Hays State would close to within six points with 7:14 left in the half when Tyler Jordan hit a three and Hall nailed two free throws to push the lead back to double digits with 6:08 left.  Emporia State would take a 47-37 lead into the locker rooms after connecting on eight of 13 from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes.
 
The Hornets opened the second half with a 16-2 run as they took a 53-29 lead with 13:30 left in the game.  A layup by Hall gave Emporia State a 60-36 lead and forced the Tigers to call their final timeout with 11:02 left in the game.   Stephaun Limuel hit a three-pointer with 8:35 remaining to give Emporia State a 63-39 lead.  A pair of Josh Pedersen free throws with 1:57 left gave the Hornets a 75-58 lead and were the last points of the game for Emporia State.  The Tigers scored the final nine points to get the lead under ten points for the first time since the 6:08 mark of the first half.
 
Brandon Hall had 18 points to lead the Hornets and was joined in double figures by Josh Pedersen and Garin Vandiver with 13 points each.  Seven different Hornets hit a three-pointer in the game with Pedersen and Vandiver hitting three each.  Brian Morton had a team high six rebounds while Tyler Jordan and Hall each had five assists.
 
The Hornets are back in action on Saturday when they play host to Lincoln. Tip-off from White Auditorium is set for 7:30 p.m.
