EMPORIA STATE VOLLEYBALL LOSES IN STRAIGHT SETS AGAINST #16 UCM

The Hornets were held to a .062 hitting percentage against the Jennies

Box Score November 4, 2016 - The Emporia State volleyball team lost in three sets (14-25, 16-25, 20-25) to #16 Central Missouri on Friday night to fall to 13-16 on the season, 5-10 in the MIAA.The Hornets have played nine nationally ranked teams in the last 17 games.

In the first set, there were six tied scores in the first 18 points before Central Missouri went on a 5-0 run to take a 14-9 lead. Emporia State got within three points at 17-14 off a Josie Williams' kill. The Jennies held off the Hornets, ending the set on a 8-0 run to win 25-14. Emporia State had a .000 hitting percentage in set one.

Central Missouri took the lead 5-1 in the second set and maintained the lead the entire set en route to a 25-16 win over Emporia State.

The Jennies had a 9-5 lead in set three before the Hornets took their first timeout. Central Missouri kept a comfortable lead until Emporia State went on a 5-1 run to put the game 24-20 at a Jennie advantage. Kylie Hohlen put away a kill to end the match and the set at 25-20.

Shayla Cotman and Williams led with eight kills a piece. Jamie Hauptman followed with seven kills, no other Hornets getting more than five kills. Kimberly Bell and Emma Dixon had 11 aso assists each. Allie Maloney led the Hornets with 17 digs and was the only Hornet with double figure digs. Emporia State was held to a .062 hitting percentage.

Emporia State will face Lindenwood on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6:00 p.m. in St. Charles, Mo.
