EMPORIA STATE VOLLEYBALL ENDS SEASON ON 3-0 LOSS TO UNK AT MIAA TOURNEY

Hornets end season with 15-18 record

Box Score November 15, 2016 - The Emporia State volleyball team lost in three sets (12-25, 17-25, 18-25) Tuesday evening to #3 Neb.-Kearney to end the season in the first round of the MIAA Tourney. The Hornets finished the season with a 15-18 record.

After a 4-1 lead by Neb.-Kearney in the first set, Emporia State tied the game at 4-4 on a Jamie Hauptman kill. When the Lopers took the lead, the Hornets stayed within three points until a 8-0 run by Neb.-Kearney gave them a 18-9 lead. The Lopers cruised their way to a 25-12 win in set one.

There were five tied scores in the first ten points of the second set before the Lopers went on a 5-0 run to lead 10-5. The Hornets would get within three points, but could not hold on as they lost set two 25-17.

Emporia State jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the third set. The Hornets maintained the lead until a 8-0 run by the Lopers gave them a 21-15 lead. Neb.-Kearney finished the set 25-18 and claimed the match three sets to none.

Hauptman led with ten kills against the Lopers followed by Shayla Cotman with six kills on .308 hitting. Kimberly Bell had 14 assists joined by Emma Dixon with 12 assists. Allie Maloney led all players with 14 digs.
