Box Score November 11, 2016 - The Emporia State volleyball team fell in three sets, 20-25, 21-25, 13-25, on Friday evening to #9 Central Oklahoma to fall to 6-11 in the MIAA.
The Bronchos jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first set, maintaining the lead until a 12-12 tie from a Josie Williams kill. After another tie at 14-14, a kill from Shayla Cotman gave the Hornets the lead 15-14, forcing a Central Oklahoma timeout. A 4-1 run by the Bronchos out of the timeout gave them the lead, one they kept the rest of the set en route to a 25-20 win over the Hornets. After the first set, libero Allie Maloney had 11 digs.
The Hornets had a 5-1 lead in the beginning of set two, one they would keep until a 10-10 tie from an Emporia State attack error. There were five more tied scores before the Bronchos finally took an 18-17 lead to propel to a 25-21 win.
After an Emporia State timeout in the third set, Hornets trailing 6-2, the Bronchos continued a run to have an 11-4 lead. Central Oklahoma had a .480 hitting percentage in the third set on the way to a 25-13 set win.
Cotman led Emporia State with six kills on .316 hitting with no errors and five blocks. Williams, Julia Joseph and Danika Burton each had five kills. Williams had three service aces and 13 digs against the Bronchos following Maloney with 23 digs. Emma Dixon led with 15 assists while Kimberly Bell had 13 assists.
Emporia State will play their final regular season game tomorrow afternoon against Pittsburg State in White Auditorium for senior day. First serve will be at 1:00 p.m. The Hornets need a win tomorrow to snag the final spot in the MIAA Tournament.
