October 21, 2016-Playing their sixth nationally ranked team in the last 12 matches, Emporia State fell in three sets at #11 Central Oklahoma on Friday night in Edmond, Okla.
The Hornets got out to good starts in the first two sets. Emporia State led 6-5 on back to back blocks from Danika Burton in the first set before the Bronchos went on a 3-0 run to take the lead on the way to a 25-17 win.
The second set started with the Hornets up 4-3 and tied at 7-7. UCO then took control with a 7-2 run as they went ahead by two sets with a 25-19 win.
Neither team took more than a three point lead through the first 39 points of the third set. Emporia State led 17-16 and the match was tied at 18 when the Bronchos reeled off three straight points. They would score seven of the last nine points of the match to take a 25-20 win and the sweep.
Emporia State was led by freshman Taylor Otting with ten kills on .421 hitting off the bench. Freshman Allie Maloney had 14 digs while senior Kimberly Bell had 14 assists and freshman Emma Dixon had 12 assists.
The Hornets are back in action on Saturday night at Pittsburg State. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. in John Lance Arena, following the #12 Hornet football team's game at Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon.
