January 30, 2016-Emporia State was held to 33.9% shooting and had a season high 19 turnovers in a 61-51 loss at Central Missouri on Saturday afternoon.
EVEN EARLY
There were six ties and five lead changes in the first half as neither team took more than a six point lead in the opening 20 minutes. The Mules led 11-5 with 16:10 left when the Hornets went on a 10-0 run to take a 15-11 lead with 12:06 remaining. Neither team took more than a three point lead until UCM hit a pair of free throws with 30.6 seconds remaining but Josh Pedersen was fouled as the second one was going in and hit two free throws to make it 27-24 Mules at teh break.
SECOND HALF
The Hornets scored the first four points of the second half on layups from Josh Oswald and Kevin Allen to take a 28-27 lead with 18:35 left in the game. The Mules answered with a 5-0 mini-run to take a 32-28 lead with 17:12 remaining and would not trail the rest of the game. The score stayed within four points until a 7-0 run gave UCM a 43-34 lead with 11:57 left. An old-fashioned three-point play by Micah Swank and a floater in the lane by Terrence Moore cut the lead to 53-49 with 5:20 remaining. Tereke Eckwood hit a three-pointer as the shot clock was winding down with 4:25 left that pushed the UCM lead back to seven points. Moore cut the lead to five on lay-up with 2:46 remaining and got a defensive rebound with 2:13 left to give the Hornets the ball with a chance to cut the lead to three. Charles McKinney missed the front end of a one and one free throw opportunity with 1:56 remaining and D.Marnier Cunningham hit two free thows with 1:50 left to make it a seven point game. A three-pointer by Brad Woodson with 1:24 left sealed the win for Central Missouri.
THE NUMBERS
Terrence Moore led Emporia State with 17 points but was the only Hornet in double figures. Kevin Allen had nine points and seven rebounds in his fourth start of the year. With his 17 points Moore moved up to sixth on the Emporia State all-time scoring list with 1,458 points as he passed George Jerman who had 1,452 points from 1977-80.
