September 4, 2015-The Emporia State volleyball team opened the 2015 season with a 3-0 win over Black Hills State in the first game of the Washburn Invitational in Topeka, Kan. on Friday morning.
BY THE NUMBERS
Emma Benton had team highs of nine kills and 17 digs in her Emporia State regular season debut.
Shayla Cotman had eight kills on .615 hitting with three blocks.
Julia Joseph had seven kills on just nine attempts for a .778 hitting percentage.
Kimberly Bell and Sydney Hartman split the majority of the assists with Bell getting 15 and Hartman 14 in the three set match.
RESCUE ME
The start of the tournament was delayed nearly 25 minutes due to a fire alarm in the Petro Center that houses Lee Arena.
UP NEXT
The Hornets will play their second match of the day against Drury at 4:00 p.m. in Lee Arena on the Washburn campus.
