September 25 - Emporia State defeats Fort Hays in three sets, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22, Friday night in White Auditorium. This improves the Hornets to 6-5, 1-1 in MIAA.
KEY PLAYERS
Shayla Cotman had nine kills on 14 attacks for a .643 hitting percentage and added seven block assists. Jamie Hauptman had eight kills on .500 hitting with four block assists. Kimberly Bell had a double-double with 17 assists and 12 digs.
KEY MOMENTS
The Tigers jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set. The Hornets resonded with a 16-5 run to take a 20-15 lead. In the second set the Tigers led 19-16 only to see the Hornets score five straight points to take a 21-19 lead. Finally, in the third set Fort Hays State led 19-16 before the Hornets went on a 6-1 run to take a 22-20 lead.
REMEMBERING RYAN
The Hornet volleyball team paid tribute to Ryan Lane, nine year old nephew of former Hornet, Carly Spicer. The Hornets wore "Remembering Ryan" warm-up shirts and a spare change drive between the second and third set raised $619 for his memorial fund.
