Hornets have won nine of 11 games heading into last week of regular season

April 20, 2015-The Emporia State baseball team earned another series win with a double header split at Ft. Hays State on Monday afternoon.  The Hornets won game one 11-5 before falling 12-10 in the nightcap.

The Tigers got on the board first with a single run in their first at bat.  The Hornets took a 2-1 lead with a bases loaded single by Evan Koehler that plated two runs in the top of the third. Ft. Hays State retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third. Price Jacobs started Emporia State's 15th come from behind win of the season with a solo home run in the fourth inning.  Both teams were scoreless in the fifth before the Hornets erupted for five runs in the sixth. Wade Hanna gave the Hornets the lead with a lead off homer. With one out Tory Bell singled and pinch runner Jonny Hodges scored on three wild pitches as Levi Parker walked on four straight pitches.  Justin Harris extended his hitting streak to 25 games with a single before Cody Bobbit delivered a three run homer to put the Hornets up 8-3.  Ft. Hays State got one run back in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Andre Vieyra.  Emporia State answered with three runs in the top of the seventh on back to back homers by pinch hitter Aaron Gile and Parker for an 11-4 lead. The Tigers got one run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by Kevin Czarnecki before starter Garrett Bane finished off the complete game with a ground out.

Bane went the distance allowing five runs on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts.  Bobbit finished the first game three for four with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.

Harris made it 26 straight games with a hit when he led off game two with a single. He scored on Dean Long's double, the 33rd straight game the third baseman has reached base, and Long scored on a single by Koehler for an early 2-0 lead.  Ft. Hays State answered with a four run bottom of the inning highlighted by a two run homer from Vieyra and went up 7-2 with a three run second.  The Hornets tied the game with five runs of their own in the top of the third.  Koehler had a two run single while Gile hit an RBI double during the inning.  Ft. Hays retook the lead with a solo homer by Alex King in the bottom of the third and Cooper Langley hit a two run home run in the fourth to put the Tigers up 10-7. Ft. Hays State scored two more in the sixth to take a 12-7 lead.  Emporia State mounted a come back in the top of the ninth when Bobbit doubled with one out and scored on Long's single to right. Hanna then singled in Long and came around to score on pinch hitter Dalton Wheat's double to make the score 12-10.  Gile came to bat as the potential tying run but struck out and was thrown out at first when the ball got away from the catcher.

The Hornets used five pitchers with Jacob Tetuan getting the loss.
