EMPORIA STATE BASEBALL GETS WIN AT FHSU BEFORE RAINS COME IN

Second game suspended, series extended to Monday

April 18, 2015-Emporia State got a 4-2 win in game one of a four game series at Ft. Hays State before the rains came in and suspended play in game two.  The Hornets and Tigers will resume the nine inning suspended game on Sunday before a scheduled seven inning game. The final game of the series will be played at some point on Monday depending on the weather.

Justin Harris extended his hitting streak to 23 games with a lead off single in the first inning.  He went first to third on a wild pitch and would score the first run on a Dean Long ground out to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. Wade Hanna gave Emporia State a 2-0 lead with a lead off home run in the second. The Tigers cut the lead in half with a lead off home run in the third.

Long led off the fourth with a single and went to second on a walk to Hanna and Cody Bobbit reached on a error that loaded the bases.  Price Jacobs drove in Long with a fielder's choice to restore a two run lead for Emporia State. Ft. Hays State got the run back with a lead off home run in the sixth and got two more runners on to end Travis Hendry's day.  Shawn Talkington came on in relief and got out of the inning with a fly out, walk and fielder's choice. Dalton Wheat hit a two out single in the seventh and scored on a double by Long to give the Hornets an insurance run. Talkington then worked a perfect seventh to pick up his seventh save.

Long went two for four with two RBI and a run scored while Hanna went one for one with a home run and two walks.  Hendry worked 5.1 innings allowing two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

The second game got underway as the rains came in and the decision was made to suspend the game until Sunday as part of a double header.
