EMPORIA STATE BASEBALL WINS WITH WALK-OFF AGAINST NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE

April 12, 2015- Emporia State Baseball defeats Northwest Missouri State 10-9, on a walk-off sacrifice fly hit by Dalton Wheat.

Emporia State got off to a big lead early in the ball game, leading 8-3 after three innings. The Hornets scored four runs in the first and in the third inning. The Bearcats fought back late tying the game at nine with a two run seventh and three run eighth inning. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth Dalton Wheat hit a fly ball to deep left field that was caught, but allowed the Hornets to score the game winning run.

Cody Bobbit had a two run homerun in the first inning for the Hornets. Steven Garber went deep twice for the Bearcats in the ball game.

Jake Eikleberry got the start for the Hornets, he went 5.0 innings giving up three earned runs on nine hits with 5 K's and 1 walk. Shawn Talkington (4-4) got the win for the Hornets, He went 3.0 innings gave up three earned runs on five hits with 1 K and no walks. Carson Smith (4-2) got the loss for the Bearcats, he went 2.2 innings only allowing one run, but it was the game ending run.

The Hornets are back in action Tuesday, April 14, 2015 when they face Washburn in non-conference play in Topeka. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm.
