March 29, 2015-The Emporia State tennis teams were swept by Southeastern Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon at the EHS Courts. The Hornet women fell 5-4 while the men were defeated 8-1.
Both teams fell behind after doubles with the women trailing 2-1 and the 3-0. The singles matches were tight with Emporia State splitting the six women's matches and the men picking up their lone win in singles.
The women got wins fromTawni Griffey at #1, Cami Ramos at #2 and Tiffany Khounsombath at #6. Griffey won 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3)for the only three set match in the women's competition. Ramos did go to a tiebreaker in the second set before winning 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) while Khounsombath took a straight sets win 6-4, 6-3 at #6 singles.
Matheus Mota had the lone win for the Hornet men with a 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) win at #5 singles. Keenan Smith and Patrick Cameron both dropped three set matches at #1 and #6 singles respectively while Sebastian Heimburger and Andrew Davids each took the second set to 7-5 before falling in straight sets at #3 and #4 singles.
The Hornet men are back in action on Tuesday, March 31 with another non-conference match against McPherson College at 3:00 p.m. on the Milton Courts. The Emporia State women will travel to Ft. Hays State on Wednesday, April 1 as they return to MIAA action.
