March 21, 2015-Emporia State hit five home runs Saturday in a double header sweep of Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla. The Hornets won game one 3-2 and took the second game 10-5.
The RiverHawks scored first using two walks, an infield single and a fielder's choice to score a run in the bottom of the first. Evan Koehler tied the score on the first pitch of the second inning with a home run to right field. With one out in the fourth Koehler hit his second homer, this one to right center, to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead. Northeastern State tied the score with a pair of doubles in the bottom of the fouth. Dean Long got the game winner for the Hornets in the top of the sixth with his tenth home run of the season and a 3-2 Hornet lead.
Shawn Talkington pitched the final 3.1 scoreless innings in relief of Travis Hendry to pick up the win.
The Hornets began game two with a six run first inning. Wade Hanna had a three run homer and Price Jacobs added a two run home run in the opening frame. The RiverHawks scored four runs in the bottom of the second, but the Hornets answered with two runs in the top of the third to go up 8-4. Northeastern State added a run in the fourth only to see Emporia State again answer with a run in the top of the fifth and add another run in the top of the sixth for the final 10-5 score.
Hanna was three for five with three RBI and a run scored. Justin Harris was two for four with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Garrett Bane worked 4.1 innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on six hits. Shane Davies worked the final 2.2 innings allowing only one hit with four strikeouts and two walks.
The Hornets and RiverHawks wrap up their four game series on Sunday afternoon in Tahlequah, Okla.
