February 7, 2015-In a battle of top ten teams the #6 Lady Hornets cut a 20 point deficit to six but could not take advantage of seven missed free throws by Ft. Hays State in a 72-62 win by the #3 Tigers.
An Addie Lackey three-pointer tied the game at 17 with 10:33 left in the first half. The Tigers then went on an 18-0 run, holding the Lady Hornets scoreless for the next 6:52 of the game. The two teams played even over the final 3:38 of the half as Ft. Hays took a 44-26 lead to the locker rooms.
Emporia State would trail 65-48 with 7:43 left when they went on a 13-2 run to cut the lead to six with 2:39 remaining. Kelly Moten hit a free throw with 1:35 left to make it 68-62 and had a chance to cut it to five when she missed the second one. The Tigers would then miss four straight free throws, but the Lady Hornets would not be able to capitalize as they missed two shots and were called for an offensive foul. The Tigers finished the game hitting four of six free throws in the final 40.6 seconds.
The Lady Hornets were led by Kelsey Barnwell with 17 points. She was joined in double figures by Jacee Kramer with ten points.Â
Emporia State is back in action on Thursday when they play host to Northeastern State. Tip-off in White Auditorium is set for 5:30 p.m.
