December 5, 2015 - The Hornet men's basketball team earned a 75-63 win over Fort Hays Saturday afternoon to move to 2-0 in MIAA play.
SLOW START
The Tigers began the game on an early run, earning their largest lead 25-11 with 7:15 left in the half. The Hornets went on a 17-8 run to end the first half trailing 33-28.
HORNETS TAKE CHARGE
Emporia State outscored Fort Hays 47-30 in the second half, shooting 51.5% from the field. Josh Pederson was key in giving the Hornets an edge, earning 11 of Emporia State's first 13 points of the half, spanning nearly five minutes. During Pederson's run, he made two threes and converted on a traditional three point play. Leading 41-38, the Hornets would never trail again.
THE NUMBERS
The Hornets forced 22 turnovers from the Tigers, earning 26 points off those turnovers. Josh Pederson led the Hornets with a career high 23 points, shooting 8 for 10 from the field and 3 for 3 from the arc. Terrence Moore added another 15 points earning four assists and three steals. Charles McKinney had 12 points for Emporia State adding another three steals. Micah Swank had five assists against the Tigers.
