November 17, 2015 - Emporia State lost in three sets to #1 seeded Central Oklahoma in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Tuesday night, ending their season with a 11-18 record.
FIRST AND SECOND SET
The Bronchos got an early 6-1 lead in the first set, earning only two of their first six points. Central Oklahoma kept the lead the rest of the set en route to a 25-16 win over the Hornets. The fifth and final tie of the second set came at 5-5 from a Broncho attack error. Central Oklahoma would control the rest of the set, winning 25-13.
THIRD AND FINAL
The final tie of the match came in the third set at 11-11 from a Shayla Cotman kill. The Bronchos then took the lead, taking the set 25-20, winning the match.
THE NUMBERS
Shayla Cotman led the Hornets with nine kills, two solo blocks, and two block assists. Danika Burton had seven kills on the night on .545 hitting. Kelly Holden had a team high nine digs followed by Emma Benton with eight digs.
SALUTE TO THE SENIORS
This was the final game as Hornets for seniors Sydney Hartman, Torrie Rupe, and Clair Simmons. Each senior played in the final match of their career, compiling four kills, 16 assists, and 14 digs on the night.
