January 5, 2015-The top ranked Lady Hornets used a 19-0 first half run to take control in a 97-52 win over Lindenwood in White Auditorium on Monday night. With the win Emporia State improves to 12-0, 5-0 in the MIAA and extends their home court winning streak to 23 games.
Emporia State jumped out to a 7-2 lead to start the game only to see Lindenwood battle back and take a 10-9 lead with 14:50 left in the half. The Lions trailed 23-20 with 10:04 left when the Lady Hornets went on a 26-2 run to take a 48-22 lead with 2:15 left in the half. Emporia State would lead 51-28 at the half, the second straight game they had topped 50 points in the opening frame.
The Lady Hornets would lead by as many as 50 points in the second half at 96-46 with 1:44 left before settling in for the 97-52 win.
Amber Vandiver led Emporia State with 24 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks in 20 minutes off the bench. Kelly Moten added 22 points, six rebounds and five steals while Merissa Quick scored 19 points and added seven rebounds.
Emporia State will begin a five game MIAA road trip on Thursday, January 8 at Missouri Western. Tip-off from the MWSU Fieldhouse in St. Joseph, Mo. is set for 5:30 p.m.
