#2 LADY HORNETS ROLL TO 33 POINT WIN AT NORTHEASTERN STATE

Emporia State holds RiverHawks to 36 points

January 21, 2015-The #2 Lady Hornets held an opponent to under 40 points for the first time since 2008 in a 69-36 win at Northeastern State on Wednesday night.  The RiverHawks had handed Emporia State their first loss of the season last year.

The game started out sluggish with more fouls than points in the first ten minutes of action as the Lady Hornets led 7-2 at the under ten media timeout.  A 10-2 run gave Emporia State a 23-9 lead with 3:43 left in the half. Kelsey Barnwell scored eight of the ten points on back to back three-pointers and a pair of free throws. The Lady Hornets took a 25-15 lead to the lockerrooms.  It was the fewest points Emporia State had surrendered in the first half this season.

Five Lady Hornets scored during an 11-2 run to open the second half as Emporia State took a 36-17 lead with 16:19 left in the game. The lead would not drop below 17 the rest of the night.

Kelly Moten led Emporia State with 20 points on six of eight shooting from the field with a career high four three-pointers.  She was joined in double figures by Barnwell with 12 points and Addie Lackey with ten points.  Kathryn Flott just missed a double double with eight points and ten rebounds while Amber Vandiver added eight points and nine boards.

The Lady Hornets are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Central Oklahoma.  Tip-off from Hamilton Fieldhouse in Edmond, Okla. is set for 1:30 p.m. and will end a five game road trip for Emporia State.
