Hornets take final three sets in 3-1 win over Urbana

September 5, 2014-Carly Spicer had 18 kills and 14 digs to lead Emporia State to 3-1 win over Urbana to open the season at the Ill.-Springfield Invite on Friday afternoon. The Hornets dropped the first set 25-14 before storming back to take the final three 25-14, 25-18, 25-17 for their eighth straight win in a season opener.

Urbana hit .500 in the opening set with 16 kills on 32 attacks with no errors but would hit -.010 for the reaminder of the match.  The Hornets had seven total blocks and 59 digs in the four set match.

Spicer got her 18 kills on .300 hitting and added two blocks. Shayla Cotman and Katie Deutschmann each had eight kills on .412 and .353 hitting respectively. Cotman also had four blocks.  Sydney Hartman turned in a double double with 18 assists and 12 digs while Kemberly Bell just missed it with 25 assists and nine digs.

The Hornets take on Ohio Valley University at 5 p.m. Friday in their second match of the invite.
