Defense gets stop in 2nd overtime to perserve win

September 27, 2014-Brent Wilson threw for 292 yards and four touchdowns and scored the game winner on a read option run in the second overtime as Emporia State defeated Northeastern State 42-35 in double overtime in Tahlequah, Okla. on Saturday night.

The Hornets had a 28-14 lead with 8:02 left in regulation on a 24 yard touchdown pass from Wilson to Austin Willis.  The RiverHawks scored 14 points in the final 5:04 and Emporia State's Austin Morton missed a 43 yard field with no time left on teh clock to send the game to overtime. 

Both teams scored in the first OT with the Hornets converting a 30 yard touchdown pass from Wilson to Kavaski Ervin on third down to send the game to the second extra frame tied at 35.  Wilson scored on fourth and goal from the two to give the Hornets a 42-35 lead going into the RiverHawks part of the second overtime. AJ West and Josh Monteguedo stopped NSU quarterback Kevin Pantastico short on third down and his pass on fourth down was incomplete as the Hornets won in overtime.

Wilson was 20 of 36 for 292 yards and four touchdowns. Willis had four receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns, while Ervin had five catches for 76 yards and a pair of touchdowns.   Defensively Seth Culp had 11 tackles for the Hornets.

Emporia State is back in action on Saturday, October 4 when they play host to Lindenwood.  kick-off from Jones Field at Welch Stadium is set for 2:00 p.m.
