Box Score Box Score in htmlSeptember 26, 2014-Emporia State took the first set and had leads in all four sets before falling 3-1 to #16 Central Missouri on Friday night at White Auditorium.
The first set saw 11 ties and two lead changes. The Jennies led 21-19 before the Hornets closed the set on a 6-1 run capped by Courtney Haring's solo block for a 25-22 win. Emporia State jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second set only to see Central Missouri tie the score at 7-7. There would be seven more ties with neither team taking more than a two point lead before UCM closed the set on a 5-1 run to post a 25-20 victory.
After the intermission, Emporia State raced to a 7-1 lead with Haring getting another solo block and a kill during the run. After Central Missouri tied the score at 11 Haring contributed two block assists and a kill in a 4-0 run for a 15-11 lead. A 9-1 run gave UCM a 20-16 lead and the Hornets fought off just one set point before falling 25-18. The Jennies took a 4-1 lead to start the fourth set. After the Hornets pulled into a 6-6 tie UCM scored the next three points. Emporia State would not get closer than two points the rest of the match as Central Missouri clinched the win with a 25-19 victory.
Haring led Emporia State with 14 kills on .333 hitting with six blocks for 18.5 points. Josie Williams had nine kills and 14 digs while Carly Spicer added seven kills and 12 digs. Kelly Holden hit 20 digs for the second time this year while Kimberly Bell and Sydney Hartman split 27 of Emporia State's 36 assists.
The Hornets are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Lindenwood. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. in White Auditorium.
