Box Score in htmlApril 18, 2014-The Emporia State men fell to Newman 5-4 in a dual that saw four of the nine matches go to a tiebreak in the final set.
The Hornets took two of the three doubles matches to open the dual. Diego Prudencio and Keenan Smith won 8-4 at #1 while Jonathan Butron and Andrew Davids took #2 with a 9-8 decision that was 7-4 in the tiebreak.
Three of the six singles matches went to the third set tiebreak with the Jets taking two of them. Prudencio won 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9) at #1 singles and Farhan Sadique took a straight set win 6-3, 6-3 at #5 singles for Emporia State's two singles wins. Payton Hays fell 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-4) at #6 singles and in a classic match at #2 Butron fell 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-2).
The Hornets will go after their tenth win of the season on Tuesday against Ottawa in the final regular season dual of the year. First serve at the Milton Courts is set for 3:00 p.m.
