Men's Box in htmlWomen's Box in htmlApril 12, 2014-The Emporia State men and wome both lost in MIAA duals at Neb.-Kearney on Saturday in Kearney, Neb. The men dropped a very close 5-4 decision while the women were shut out 9-0.
The Hornets lost all three doubles matches, with two of then going to the tiebreaker and the third being an 8-6 score. Emporia State tried to battle back in singles with Diego Prudencio taking a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 win at #1, Jonathan Butron winning 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 at #2, Keenan Smith winning at #3 by a 6-4, 7-5 score and Payton Hays taking a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) vicotry at #6 but could not get the needed fifth match.
The Emporia State women were shutout in a full nine match dual for the first time since March 29, 2013. Taylor Smith did go three sets at #3 singles before falling 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The netters will wrap up their weekend road trip at Neb.-Wesleyan on Sunday in Lincoln, Neb.
