March 28, 2014-The Emporia State tennis teams will be in action this weekend as they host duals on Friday and Saturday. The Hornet women will get things started on Friday against Missouri Western on Milton Courts on the Emporia State campus while both teams will play host to Northwest Missouri on Saturday at the EHS Courts.
The Hornet women are 10-3 overall with a 3-1 record in MIAA play and ranked ninth in the latest ITA Central Regional Rankings. Tawni Griffey is 11-2 on the season in singles play including a 5-0 mark at #1. She has won six straight matches with the last two coming at the #1 spot. She has teamed with Nicole Jara to go 8-2 at #1 doubles and they are undefeated as a pair in MIAA play.
The Emporia State men are 8-3 overall with an 0-2 record in MIAA action and ranked tenth in the ITA Regional Rankings. Diego Prudencio is 8-3 on the season at #1 singles while Andrew Davids is 8-3 overall with a 5-0 mark at #2 singles.
The Missouri Western women are 0-9 on the season with an 0-5 mark in conference play. They are coached by long time Griffon men's basketball coach Tom Smith in his first year as a tennis coach.
The Northwest Missouri women are 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA and ranked seventh in the latest ITA Central Regional rankings. The Bearcat men are 8-1 overall and have yet to play an MIAA match. They are ranked 16th in the ITA National Rankings and first in the ITA Central Region.
