March 15, 2014-The Emporia State Lady Hornets led from start to finish on the way to a 76-69 win over Wayne State in a top 15 battle in the NCAA Central Regional Semifinals in Searcy, Ark. With the win the Lady Hornets advance to the Sweet 16 for the 11th tim in the last 17 years.
Emporia State jumped out to a 12-4 lead and would lead 19-9 with 7:10 left in the half. Laura Patrick hit three of four three-pointers in the first half for the Lady Hornets while Wayne was held without a three-pointer in the opening 20 minutes. The Wildcats had entered the tournament ranked seventh in the nation in three points shooting percentage and missed all nine first half attempts.
Patrick hit the last of her five treys and Desiree Wylie hit a layup left to give the Lady Hornets their biggest lead of the night at 55-40 with 10:17 left in the game. The Wildcats scored the final four points of the game for the final score of 76-69.
Merissa Quick had her second double-double of the tournament with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Patrick led the Lady Hornets with 19 points including her second straight night with five three-pointers. Desiree Wylie scored 14 points on five of six shooting while Haley Parker went six of eight from the free throw line and ended with ten points.
The Lady Hornets will play the winner of the other semifinal between Central Missouri and Concordia-St. Paul. Emporia State has played both of them earlier in the year, taking two games from the Jennies including the MIAA Championship game and defeating the Golden Bears in the Disney Tip-off Classic. The Championship game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. on Monday night.

Patrick tied her own mark of five made three pointers that ranks third in Emporia State history in NCAA Tournament play.
Quick's 13 rebounds ranks tenth in Emporia State history in NCAA Tournament play.
The Lady Hornets are now 32-14 (.696) all-time in NCAA Tournament play.
