March 10, 2014-The Emporia State men's tennis team lost their first match of the season, falling 6-3 at #31 Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle Tennis Edition.
The Hornets, who are ranked tenth in the latest ITA Central Regional Rankings, came out of doubles trailing 2-1 when Payton Hays and Farhan Sadique were the only team to win with an 8-3 vicotry at the #3 spot.Â
Diego Pudencio earned a 7-5, 7-5 win for Emporia State over Bobby Florence at #1 singles while Hays put a bookend on the singles play with a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) win over Jacob Long at #6 singles.
The Hornets have postponed their match with Ottawa that was scheduled for Thursday. The will begin a Spring Break trip to the St. Louis area on Friday, March 14 at Lindenwood. They will play five matches in five days during the trip. The Emporia State women will play at Washburn on Wednesday before embarking on the same five day road trip.
