February 8, 2014-For the second straight game the #7 Lady Hornets overcame a deficit with less than two minutes remaining to post a win over an in-state rival as they defeated #25 Ft. Hays State 80-77 on Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium.

The Tigers jumped in front early and led 20-12 with 12:14 left in the first half.  An 8-2 run capped by a Desiree Wylie three pointer gave the Lady Hornets their first lead of the night at 28-27 with 6:32 left in the half. There would be four ties and four lead changes the rest of period before Emporia State took a 41-37 lead into the locker room.

Ft. Hays State used a 9-2 run in the second half to take a 58-52 lead with 12:40 left and built the lead to eight at 64-56 with 9:24 remaining.  The Lady Hornets responded with a 12-0 run to take a 68-64 lead at the 6:23 mark.  The Tigers came back and took a 75-71 lead with 2:25 left.  Merissa Quick scored six points in the final 2:12 as the Lady Hornets outscored the Tigers 9-2 down the stretch.

Amber Vandiver led the Lady Hornets with 20 points and seven rebounds while Kionna Kellogg had her second straight double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Quick had 15 points while Haley Parker added 11 and Kelly Moten had ten points.

the Lady Hornets are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 12 when they take on Northeastern State.  Tip-off from Slaymaker Court in White Auditorium is set for 5:30 p.m.
