November 14, 2014-In the second to last match of the season, Emporia State fell in three sets to #6 Neb.-Kearney on Friday night in White Auditorium.
The first set was tight with 11 ties and five lead changes through the first 28 points. A 8-0 run by the Lopers gave them a 20-14 lead before they took a 25-21 victory. Neb.-Kearney jumped out to a 6-1 lead and had a 16-10 lead to start the second set. The Hornets were able to fight off three set points before the Lopers took a 25-22 win. There were another 11 ties and five lead changes in the third set with the last tie coming at 16-16. Emporia State fought off three set points before Neb.-Kearney got a block to end the match with a 25-23 win.
Carly Spicer and Josie Williams each had nine kills with Spicer adding 17 digs and Williams 14 digs. Courtney Haring had seven kills and nine blocks, three of them solo, for the Hornets.
Emporia State will wrap up the season on Saturday against Ft. Hays State. First serve for the final match of seniors Katie Deutschmann, Courtney Haring and Carly Spicer is set for 3:00 p.m. in White Auditorium.
