November 14, 2015-The Emporia State men's basketball team opened the season with a 61-52 victory over Concordia-St. Paul in the MIAA-NSIC Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev. on Friday night.
Terrence Moore led the Hornets with 21 points and three steals while playing 37 minutes. He was joined in double figures by Micah Swank with ten points and four assists. Spenser Gales had a team high eight rebounds for Emporia State.
Emporia State jumped out 7-2 to start the game and led for much of the first half before taking a 34-33 lead into the locker rooms. The Golden Bears led 44-40 with 11:51 remaining when the Hornets went on a 12-1 run to take control. Moore capped the run with a steal and breakaway layup at the 4:58 mark to give Emporia State a 52-45 lead. Jay Temaat then hit five of seven free throws in the final 1:19 to ice the win.
The Hornets will take on St. Cloud State on Saturday to wrap up the two day conference challenge. Tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m. (CT) at the Doolittle Community Center in Las Vegas.
