END OF THE STAND
Emporia State wraps up a four match home stand against Missouri Southern and Central Oklahoma this weekend. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State defeated Lindenwood 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium.
The Hornets won the first set 25-14 but fell in the second set 22-25. Emporia State then took the final two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-23.
Carly Spicer lead the way for the Hornets with 15 kills while Josie Williams added 13 kills as well. Kimberly Bell recorded 20 assists and Sydney Hartman had 18 assists.
 
THE COACHES
Bing Xu is 216-92 in his tenth year as the head coach at Emporia State.  He has led the Hornets to five NCAA Tournament appearances and has won at least 18 matches in each of the last seven seasons. He is 16-2 against Missouri Southern and 7-3 against Central Oklahoma.
John Napier is 4-10 in his first season at Missouri Southern. This is his first match against Emporia State.
Edgar Miraku is 52-29 in his 3rd year at Central Oklahoma. He is 3-2 against Emporia State.
 
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 5-6 on the season and 1-5 in the MIAA.  Four of the Hornets 11 matches this year have gone five sets with Emporia State going 2-2 in those four matches.  Only three of the Hornets 11 matches have been sweeps, a 3-0 win over Ohio Valley and a 3-0 losses at nationally ranked Washburn and Neb.-Kearney.
Carly Spicer is sixth in the MIAA in the latest conference rankings in kills at 3.66 per set.  She has at least ten kills nine of 11 matches this season and has recorded double-doubles in five matches in her first year playing the full rotation. She tied her career high with 21 kills and added 18 digs at Northwest Missouri, her second match this season with at least 20 kills and 15 digs.
Kelly Holden is sixth in the MIAA in digs at 4.20 per set. After getting nine digs in the first match of the year, she has recorded at least ten in the last ten matches with a career high 23 against Lindenwood.
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Missouri Southern is 4-10 on the year, 1-5 in the MIAA. Katie Politte is averaging a team best 3.04 kills per set while Katie Wiele is averaging a team best 3.88 digs per set.
 
SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS
Central Oklahoma is 13-1 on the year, 5-1 in the MIAA. Four different Bronchos lead the MIAA in a statistical category. Barbara Jackson averages 3.93 kills per set while Allison Barr is hitting .385 on the season and Katy Davis dishes 11.79 assists per set on offense. Defensively Juliette Smith is averaging 1.39 blocks per set to lead the league while Whitney Gifford is second in the MIAA at 5.64 digs per set.
 
SERIES HISTORIES
This will be the 74th meeting between Emporia State and Missouri Southern with the Hornets holding a 43-30 lead in the all-time series.
This will be the 16th meeting between Emporia State and Central Oklahoma.  The Hornets have a 10-5 advantage in the all-time series.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST MISSOURI SOUTHERN
Paige Vanderpool had a monster match with 18 kills on .533 hitting and 19 digs as Emporia State defeated Missouri Southern in four sets.
Emporia State jumped out to an 11-3 lead to open the match and never trailed in the first set on the way to a 25-18 lead.  Mo. Southern took the early lead in the second set, leading 7-2 before the Hornets went on a 6-0 run to take an 8-7 lead.  It was one of six lead changes and ten ties in the second set before Mo. Southern won 25-23.  The Lions led 3-1 to start the third before Emporia State went on a 9-3 run to take a 10-6 lead. The Hornets would not trail the rest of the set on the way to a 25-19 win.  Emporia State then cruised to a 25-10 match clinching win.
Vanderpool led four Hornets in double figures in kills and three in double figures in digs.  Katie Deutschmann had 13 kills on .440 hitting while splitting time at setter where she had 28 assists.  Brianna Kaiser had 11 kills and 13 digs while Shayla Cotman added ten kills on .692 hitting.  Kelly Holden had 16 digs and Sydney Hartman dished 27 assists.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
Emporia State had more kills on a better hitting percentage, but 13 service errors and six ball handling errors cost the Hornets in a 3-1 loss to Central Oklahoma.
The first three sets were very tight with 32 ties and 15 lead changes.  The Hornets fought off two set points and scored the final four to win 26-24 in the opener.
There were 12 ties and seven lead changes in the second set before the Bronchos took a 24-20 lead. Emporia State then fought off three set points before Central took the set 25-23 on a service error by the Hornets.
The third set was more of the same with 11 ties and four lead changes.  Both teams had set point before Juliette Smith's kill gave the Bronchos a 27-25 win.
UCO never trailed in the fourth and final set as they won 25-19 to take the match 3-1.
Carly Spicer led the Hornets with 14 kills on .462 hitting and was joined in double figures by Shayla Cotman with 11 and Paige Vanderpool with ten kills. Vanderpool led Emporia State with 14 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.
