January 15, 2014-Rheanna Egli scored the final four points in the final 41 seconds to give the #3 Emporia State Lady Hornets an 80-78 win over Pittsburg State.  With the win the Lady Hornets improve to 17-0 on the year and 8-0 in the MIAA.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to an 8-2 lead just over two minutes into the game before the Gorillas tied it at 11-11 with 13:21 left in the half.  There were five ties and three lead changes the remainder of the half.  Back to back buckets by Egli gave the Lady Hornets a 42-34 lead with 39 seconds left.  A pair of Pitt State free throws made it 42-36 Emporia State at the break.

A 7-0 run in the second half gave the Lady Hornets the biggest lead of the night at 57-48 with 12:10 remaining.  The Gorillas used an 11-5 run to pull within 68-67 with 3:26 left before Haley Parker hit a three-pointer to push the lead back to four with 3:08 remaining.  Egli beat the shot clock on a layup with 41 seconds left to give the Lady Hornets a 78-72 lead. 

Brigit Hesser nailed a three-pointer out of a timeout with 28 seconds left to pull the the Gorillas to within 78-75. Cathy Brugman hit another three pointer with 14 seconds remaining for Pitt State to tie the score at 78.  Egli was fouled with seven seconds left and hit both free throws for an 80-78 lead. Brugman was fouled with 1.7 seconds left and missed both free throws with Desiree Wylie pulling down the last of her 13 rebounds to secure the win.

The Lady Hornets have equaled the 2003-04 team for the second best winning streak in school history with 17 wins.  They will not play this weekend with the next action scheduled for Wednesday, January 22 at Northeastern State.  Tip-off in Tahlequah is set for 5:30 p.m.
