September 13, 2013-The Emporia State volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at the Peggy Martin Challenge in Warrensburg, Mo. The Hornets defeated Colorado-Colorado Springs 25-17, 25-21, 14-25, 25-20 and fell in five sets 22-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-10 to Minn. State-Moorhead.
Paige Vanderpool had 16 kills on .406 hitting with 16 digs to lead the Hornets in the first match. Courtney Haring added 12 kills on .647 hitting with three block assists.
Josie Williams had a career high 19 kills in the five set loss to unbeaten MSU-Moorhead. The Hornets lost a match after winning the first two sets for the first time since Sept. 8 against Upper Iowa in Rolla, Mo.
Emporia State will continue play in Warrensburg on Saturday against Winona State and Ferris State.
