April 5, 2013-The Emporia State women's tennis team won it's fourth straight dual with a 6-3 victory over Ft. Hays State on Friday afternoon. The Hornets are now 13-4 overall and 6-3 in the MIAA.
Emporia State took victories at #1 and #3 doubles for an early 2-1 lead. Nicole Jara and Jennifer Gerhardt remained undefeated in doubles competition at 3-0 with an 8-3 win at #1 while Tiffany Khounsombath and Somer Schmidt improved to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in MIAA play with an 8-3 win at #3.
The Hornets went up 4-1 as Jara picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at #1 singles and Alex Crowe took a 6-3, 6-2 win at #4 singles. The Tigers earned third set wins at #2 and #3 singles, but the Hornets took the dual with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #5 by Schmidt and a 6-0, 6-2 win at #6 from Kayla Frayley.
Emporia State is back in action on Saturday against Neb.-Kearney in both men's and women's action. First serve is set for 12 noon at the EHS Courts. Seniors Alex Crowe, Mat Edwards and Mitch Kibbe will be honored on Senior Day prior to the match.
