Hornets fall in 5-4 decision in final match of season

April 19, 2013-The Emporia State men's tennis team ended their season with a pair of losses at the MIAA Championship tournament in Springfield, Mo. on Friday.  The Hornets lost 5-0 to nationally ranked Southwest Baptist and then fell 5-4 to Truman in the consolation match.

The sixth seeded Hornets fell behind the third seeded Bearcats 3-0 after doubles play in the first round.  Keenan Smith fell 6-0, 6-0 at #1 singles to Domingos Carissimo and Bryson Dabney lost 6-1, 6-1 to Omar ElKheshen at #3 singles to end the match.

In the consolation match Emporia State took a 2-1 lead in doubles play.  Smith and Dabney won 8-4 at #1 doubles and the team of Mat Edwards and Andrew Davids took an 8-6 victory at #2 doubles.  Smith and Mitchell Kibbe each won in straight sets for the Hornets, Smith 6-2, 6-4 at #1 singles and Kibbe 6-2, 6-3 at #4 singles.  Davids at #2, Edwards at #5 and Kenton Hallowell at #6 lost in straight sets while Bryson Dabney fell 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 at #3 singles.

The Hornets end the season 8-13 overall.
