Hornets beat Ottawa in spring home opener

March 7, 2013-The Emporia State men's tennis team got back on a winning track with an 8-1 win over Ottawa University on Thursday afternoon at the Milton Courts.

The Braves were playing short-handed with only five players available, giving the Hornets a 2-0 lead before the first serve of the match.  Emporia State's swept the doubles action on the court with Keenan Smith and Bryson Dabney winning 8-3 at #1 while Andrew Davids and Mat Edwards took #2 at 8-2.

Mitch Kibbe won 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles to give the Hornets five match wins to secure the team win.  Emporia State also got wins from Smith 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 at #1 singles, Dabney at 6-3, 6-2 at #3, and Edwards at #4 singles 6-1, 6-0. 

The Hornets will play an exhibition match on Friday against Seward County CC and will return to regular season action on Monday against Tabor.  First serve from the Milton Courts is set for 2 p.m.
