March 6, 2013-The Emporia State women moved to 6-0 on the year with a sweep of Ottawa in the spring opener at the Milton Tennis Courts on the Emporia State campus.

The Hornets jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles, getting an 8-0 win at #3 from Tiffany Khounsombath and Somer Schmidt.  Nicole Jara and Taylor Smith recorded an 8-1 win at #1 and Alex Crowe and Kayla Fraley won 8-2 at #2 doubles.

Emporia State got straight set wins in all six singles matches as Jara at #1, Smith at #2 and Schmidt at #6 did not lose a game.  Khounsombath won 6-1, 6-2 at #3 while Gerhardt won at #4 6-1, 6-3 and Crow won 6-3, 6-1 at #5 singles.

The Hornet women begin MIAA play on Friday, March 8 when they travel to Central Oklahoma.  First serve in Edmond, Okla. is set for 3 p.m.  The Emporia State men will play Ottawa on Thursday at the Milton Courts.
