Hornets hold the Lions to lowest point total of season

February 9, 2013-The Emporia State men held Lindenwood, the highest scoring team in the MIAA, to their lowest point total in almost three years with a 61-52 victory in White Auditorium.  With the win the Hornets evened their season record at 10-10.

The first half saw three ties and four lead changes as neither team took more than a five point lead.  Gavin Brown hit a pair of free throws with 2:43 to give the Hornets a 25-23 lead in the last scoring of the half.

Emporia State used a 13-0 run to turn a two point deficit into an 11 point lead with 12:57 left in the game.  The Hornets would not trail the rest of the game. The Lions cut the lead to six with 2:52 left but Emporia State responded with a 7-0 run highlighted by a fast break layup from Terrence Moore and a dunk from Paul Bunch.  Bunch hit two free throws with 37 seconds left to give the Hornets a 13 point lead and seal the win.

Kaleb Wright was the leading scorer for the Hornets with 18 points.  He was joined in double figures by Bunch with 12 points and Chris Sights with 11 points.  Bunch had ten rebounds and three blocks for his fourth double-double of the year. Brown led Emporia State with five assists and added seven rebounds and seven points.

The Hornets are back in action on Feb. 13 when they travel to Central Oklahoma.  Tip-off on Wednesday from Hamilton Field House in Edmond, Okla. is set for 7:30 p.m.
