November 8, 2013-Emporia State had more kills on a better hitting percentage, but 13 service errors and six ball handling errors cost the Hornets in a 3-1 loss to Central Oklahoma on Friday night in White Auditorium.
The first three sets were very tight with 32 ties and 15 lead changes. The Hornets fought off two set points and scored the final four to win 26-24 in the opener.
There were 12 ties and seven lead changes in the second set before the Bronchos took a 24-20 lead. Emporia State then fought off three set points before Central took the set 25-23 on a service error by the Hornets.
The third set was more of the same with 11 ties and four lead changes. Both teams had set point before Juliette Smith's kill gave the Bronchos a 27-25 win.
UCO never trailed in the fourth and final set as they won 25-19 to take the match 3-1.
Carly Spicer led the Hornets with 14 kills on .462 hitting and was joined in double figures by Shayla Cotman with 11 and Paige Vanderpool with ten kills. Vanderpool led Emporia State with 14 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.
The Hornets will wrap up the home portion of their schedule on Saturday night when they play host to Pittsburg State. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. in White Auditorium.
